Pete is a lifelong rancher, conservationist, and community leader from Beaumont, Kansas. A fourth-generation steward of the Ferrell Ranch, founded by his great-grandfather in 1888, Pete has spent his career blending practical ranching experience with a passion for sustainable agriculture and rural economic development.

Raised in the small Flint Hills community of Beaumont, Pete attended the town's three-room grade school before graduating from Leon High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Grinnell College, where he developed a lasting interest in archaeology through fieldwork in the American Southwest.

After returning home, Pete dedicated himself to the family ranch, eventually becoming its general manager. Along the way, he became an early advocate for regenerative grazing and innovative land management practices. His commitment to conservation and stewardship has earned numerous state and national recognitions, including awards for soil conservation, wildlife habitat improvement, and sustainable agriculture.
